Anxiety

Generalized anxiety disorder (or GAD) is characterized by excessive, exaggerated anxiety and worry about everyday life events with no obvious reasons for worry. People with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder tend to always expect disaster and can’t stop worrying about health, money, family, work, or school. In people with GAD, the worry often is unrealistic or out of proportion for the situation. Daily life becomes a constant state of worry, fear, and dread. Eventually, the anxiety so dominates the person’s thinking that it interferes with daily functioning, including work, school, social activities, and relationships.

Depression

Symptoms of depression include an all-encompassing low mood accompanied by low self-esteem, loss of enjoyment in normally enjoyable activities, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, Appetite and weight changes, sleep changes, irritability or restlessness, loss of energy, concentration problems and physical aches and pains.

Depression comes in many shapes and forms. The different types of depression have unique symptoms, causes, and effects. Knowing what type of depression you have can help you manage your symptoms and get the most effective treatment.

Mood Disorders

Mood disorders affect about 10% of the population. Everyone experiences “highs” and “lows” in life, but people with mood disorders experience them with greater intensity and for longer periods of time than most people.

Abuse – Sexual, Physical & Emotional

Abuse can take many forms and can range from subtle to severe with no range of abuse being acceptable. It doesn’t matter where the abuse takes place, at work, home or in the school yard or who the abuser is… no one should have to suffer abuse. A compassionate counsellor can help empower you to live a life free of abuse.

Trauma Recovery

Trauma has been described as a profound deviation from normal life experience. People naturally develop coping mechanisms when they have been traumatized. These are learned survival skills, which work to protect the psyche during and immediately following the trauma. Eventually these coping mechanisms work against healthy emotional functioning.

If you have endured a traumatic experience you more than likely require some type of professional support to help restore a natural balance to your psyche.

Addiction – Alcohol, Drugs & Gambling

Addictions affect not only the addicted but all the people around them. Whether you have an addiction that you would like to rid yourself of or you are a loved one affected by someone who is addicted, counselling can help in the battle to regain control of your life.

Loss & Bereavement

Loss can mean a number of things, not only the passing of a loved one… Loss of job, of home, the end of a relationship and much more.
