Stress Management

In its simplest form stress is strain or tension that puts your body into a heightened state of awareness giving you the extra edge/push to perform well under various levels of pressure. In other words if you react to stress in the right way you can get the job done. Most of us have heard the ‘Fight or Flight’ term used before the theory states that animals react to threats with a general discharge of the sympathetic nervous system, priming the animal for fighting or fleeing. In today’s society it can mean both a physical and emotional reaction to stress-whether you fight or flee can be directly related to your ability to adapt to the situation.

Personal Growth

Personal growth is a process that produces personal change and progress. And it starts from within you.

The process to guide you on the personal growth journey involves; understanding yourself, improving your awareness, working on your attitude, believing in yourself and your potentials, developing your skills, setting your goals and beginning with the end in mind.

Balancing Work and Family

There are often two main aspects associated with work/life balance – the first is lack of time and scheduling conflicts, and the other is feeling overwhelmed, overloaded or stressed by the pressures of multiple roles. At SCCG we have developed many ways to help you achieve a balance that will produce increased harmony within your household and allow you to work happily and efficiently away from the home.

Self Esteem

Self-esteem is a term used in psychology to reflect a person’s overall evaluation of his or her own worth. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride and shame. A person’s self-esteem may be reflected in their behaviour, such as in assertiveness, shyness, confidence or caution. Self Esteem is an enduring personality trait that when at a low level can lead to unhappiness and other issues in life.

Life Skills Training

Life skills have been defined as “abilities for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life”. They represent the psycho-social skills that determine valued behaviour and include reflective skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking, to personal skills such as self-awareness, and to interpersonal skills.

Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution is a range of methods for alleviating or eliminating sources of conflict. Conflicts occur when people perceive that, as a consequence of a disagreement, there is a threat to their needs, interests or concerns. It then becomes necessary in order to resolve conflict to engage an impartial professional to mediate between the two parties. Conflict can be between a mother and daughter, two co-workers or even a group versus an individual. All conflict is unhealthy for everyone concerned and mediation is the best way to begin to solve the problem.

Motivation

The definition of motivation is to give reason, incentive, enthusiasm, or interest that causes a specific action or certain behaviour. Motivation is present in every life function. Simple acts such as eating are motivated by hunger. Education is motivated by desire for knowledge. Having a lack of motivation can lead to serious problems or it can be a sign that something more serious is wrong. If you feel you are not motivated a visit to see a counsellor may help you understand why.
